Visual History of Music

Canonize the world’s music datasets: the full arc of music history, through video, in one visual. Not a streaming app: a curatorial map.

The Visual History of Music engine — a subway map of music history with search, genre and era lists, and an artist's releases opening into a credit and influence network

The idea

March 2014: performances watched in chronological order, the data shaping the map. YouTube has the performances, critics the verdicts, charts the reach. None show where a record sits in the story.

Every node opens: performance, artist, release, date, audience, influence chain. Navigate by era, by genre, or ride the lineage: blues to rock to punk to post-punk.

The 2026 spec crossed critics, listeners, awards, and reach into one composite score: consensus, not nostalgia. No consumer product unifies them.

Careers as transit lines, each stop a signature release. Hover: performance, liner notes. Flip into 3D: credit chips, lead artist to sidemen. Any name pivots to their ten releases.
